A rolling programme of full car park resurfacing across live Lidl UK stores, planned store-by-store to keep trading uninterrupted.

The brief

Lidl UK’s car parks see thousands of customer visits a week, so any resurfacing programme has to be planned around trading hours rather than the other way around. Across a series of stores including Old Kent Road, London, Lawday was appointed to plan out, resurface and reinstate customer car parks that had reached the end of their serviceable life – without closing a store to shoppers.

Our approach

Each scheme was phased zone-by-zone, so a working section of the car park remained open to customers throughout construction. Our teams planed out failed tarmac, repaired sub-base defects, and laid new binder and surface course to a specification built for heavy, daily footfall and delivery traffic.

Alongside resurfacing, we renewed line marking, disabled bay compliance markings, signage and Armco barriers – giving each store a fully refreshed, safety-compliant car park in one coordinated visit rather than a series of separate contractor call-outs.

The result

Each store received a fully resurfaced, re-lined and compliant car park with zero unplanned closures and no disruption to customer trade. The programme’s success led directly to further instructions from Lidl UK, including structural alteration and underpinning works at Harrow & Weald.
